Alison Hughes

Alison is our family support programme co-ordinator and teaches BSL level 1 in the Burnley area. As a mum to 2 beautiful Deaf daughters and a hearing son, Alison and her family have many experiences to share with you to guide you on your journey.

“Hi, I’m Alison and I have BSL level 6 all taught by Ayesha Communications. The reason I got into learning BSL was because I have 2 deaf children. I have been teaching level 1 since 2019 and I love it. I am looking forward to working with you!”

Darryl Gee

Darryl is our BSL teacher in the Halifax area.

“Hey, I’m Darryl, and I’m a Deaf Child of Deaf parents, I grew up in a signing household. I was born hearing but went deaf due to BOR syndrome. I am now a parent to a deaf child, and strongly believe the more people that can sign, the better a place the world is.

I hold BSL level 3 NVQ, and a DTTLS teaching qualification.”

Jessica Wattleworth

Jess is our After School Clubs co-ordinator.

“Hi, I’m Jess and I hold a qualification in BSL level 3, I’m involved in the Deaf community, attending Deaf socials, teaching sign language enrichment classes in high schools and BSL level 1 courses.

I have a BA (Hons) degree in SEN and Education, and a diploma in Childcare and Education. I have a little boy of my own who is 2 years old, who I love making memories with. I am very excited to work with Ayesha Communications to offer exciting sign language workshops to all ages. With my experience in education from Early Years to KS3, I can incorporate engaging, educational and  age appropriate activities to support the learning of BSL and deaf awareness.”

Kerry Reid

Registered blind, Kerry is our Rossendale teacher and also manages our social media outposts.

Kerry learned BSL in the year 2000. She was inspired to learn as a child because she attended a youth club for children with disabilities and met other blind, D/deaf and DeafBlind children there. Kerry re-sat her Level 1 with Ayesha Communications after chatting with Ayesha over a glass (or 4) of wine one Friday night, Kerry then went on to complete her level 2 and 3. A qualified adult education instructor, her confidence and larger than life personality more than qualifies her to guide you through your level 1 BSL if you’re in the Rossendale area. As well as teaching BSL, Kerry has taught a number of other subjects for the last 10+ years which her sign name will give away. Kerry is a good teacher for those of you who feel a little nervous. You never know, you may even spot some of her current students on Coronation Street
